Known Limitations
- Upgrades
- Sometimes during an upgrade from the original v02.02.65 upgrade, the UI will report that the modem firmware did not upgrade. This is a false failure as after the upgrade you can check the About screen and see that the modem firmware (under “router firmware”) did upgrade. If the upgrade was successful, the “Router Firmware” should be NTG9X15C_45.04.24.00.
- Use Chrome for the Best WebUI Experience
- Chrome is recommended to provide the best WebUI experience with this product. IE v11 or higher is also acceptable, and Firefox is not recommended.
- Cannot Upgrade from IP Pass Thru Mode:
- If you are upgrading from 02.02.65 to 02.02.84 you will need to make sure your device is running in default NAT (Network Address Translation) mode. There is currently a limitation in 02.02.65 that will not allow upgrades if you are running in IPPT (IP Pass Through) mode.
- Dual WAN Failover
- If you are using the DNS method to confirm a link is up, please be aware that some upstream devices assign their own DNS servers to you, and not DNS servers on the Internet. This could mean that your internet connectivity is not working, but you can still see these DNS servers.
- Thus, please be aware of your network topology and we also recommend using the IP address Ping method when using Dual WAN.
- Using the DNS detection method when Ethernet/Wireline is the primary and Mobile is the backup, when the Ethernet/Wireline data connection is lost the device may not properly failover/fallback as expected.
- IPPT Mode Network IP address Display
- While a device is running in IPPT mode, the WAN status or Network status pages may sometimes display an incorrect address such as 10.x.x.x instead of the actual wireless network assigned IPPT IP address. The connection is not affected and this is a UI related issue.
- Configuration Files
- If you are re-loading a CFG file, it should be from a router with same firmware as the router receiving the configuration file. Settings on new features may not all be set to a default state if you load a config file from v02.02.65 to the new v02.02.84. You should make a new config file backup after you upgrade and confirm the new settings are how you want them.
OTA (Over the Air) Upgrade Instructions
For OTA upgrades you should see an alert “Update Available” or you can check for update manually. You will need to be connected to the 3G or 4G network to perform this. To perform a manual check Go to Settings > Software and Reset > then from the Software Update section click on Check for Update
The device will check for new updates on every power up as well as every 7 days, so if you get the alert you can proceed by clicking on “Update Now.”
Direct File method: You can also download the v84 firmware from the Netgear support site, under filename “LG6100D-10000SMobileApp.rel.upg”.
- From the home page, go to Settings -> Software and Reset -> Manual Software Update -> “Upload”
- Choose the file you just downloaded and then click the Upload button.
- The upgrade process then display the screen below noted under “Installing Software and Restarting Router…”
NOTE: You must be in regular NAT mode to perform the upgrade from the original v02.02.65 release. You cannot be in IP Pass Thru mode.
NOTE: You need to clear your browser history (cache) after update completes in order to see the new features added in this release.
LIMITATION: Sometimes during an upgrade from the original v02.02.65 upgrade, on an un-activated device, the UI will report that the modem firmware did not upgrade. This is a false failure as after the upgrade you can check the About screen and see that the modem firmware (under “router firmware”) did upgrade. If the upgrade was successful, the “Router Firmware” should be NTG9X15C_45.04.24.00.
NOTE: If after the upgrade you do not see the new features or some things to not appear to be working as expected, it is recommended to perform a Settings Reset. This will reset the router back to the factory default settings, including for all new features, and ensure all the new features are enabled.
You can perform this by visiting: Settings > Software and Resets > Settings Reset.
Below is an example of a Software Update Alert.
You can also manually check by going to Settings > Software and Resets > Check for Updates
After clicking “Continue Update” you will get an option to “Download and Install now” or dismiss.
Firmware will take a few minutes to download depending on your speed. User will be presented with WEB UI page shown below while update is still in progress. If you are observing the power LED, it will start blinking as soon as you start the update then device will reboot to complete the update.
Once the LED stops blinking and device reboots you can reconnect your Wifi connection then click on the “click here” which will take you to the homepage to check status of the update
You will get presented with the login page followed by notification that the device has been upgraded.
Select Ok to clear the notification.
- You can verify the software versions via the About page, as seen below. The Device firmware should be 02.02.84 and the Router Firmware should be 45.04.24.00.
