Common One Key Problems

If pressing an F-Key is not launching an application after you have configured One Key, review the following common configuration problems.

General Troubleshooting

  • Make sure the One Key Engine is enabled. Launch the One Key application. Uncheck and check "Enable One Key." Logout and login to insure the One Key Engine has been correctly reset and enabled.
  • If you want to insure the One Key Engine is running, goto the Applications -> Utilities folder and open the Activity Monitor application. Look for the application name "One Key Engine."

Laptop Users & Aluminum Keyboards

  • Make sure you are holding the "fn" key when you press an F-key. The fn key enables the function keys on a laptop and the aluminum keyboard. On laptops it can be found on the lower left of the keyboard next to the control key. On the aluminum keyboard it can be found to the right of the delete key.
  • Laptop and aluminum keyboard users may turn off the use of the fn key. To do this, select System Preferences → Keyboard & Mouse. Select the Keyboard tab and check "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" (exact wording may be vary based on the operating system version). This will allow you to simply press an F-key to trigger a hot key action in One Key. To use the F-keys to adjust the brightness, volume, etc hold down the fn key and press the desired key.

Removing One Key

  1. Open the One Key application and make sure "Enable One Key" is unchecked.
  2. Select the One Key application and move it into the Trash, that's it.
