Introduction

VIA Falcon IDE Storage Device Driver Package is a setup package to install drivers of VIA PATA/SATA IDE controllers and it is composed of MiniIDE driver and SATAIDE driver. MiniIDE is the driver of VIA PATA controller which provides DMA capability of data transaction. SATAIDE is the driver of VIA SATA controller which provides hot-plug capability and supports of port multiplier device. For the detail of functionality, please refer with Supported Storage Controller/Functionality section.

Supported Storage Controller/Functionality

VIA Falcon IDE storage device driver package doesn’t support VIA RAID controller and VIA AHCI controller.  It supports VIA IDE controller ONLY.

Definitions and Conventions:

      Device ID                  - PCI Device ID of VIA’s IDE controller.

      Controller Type          - The type of IDE controller, we define three types as follows.

PATA             - All of channels on this IDE controller are parallel channels.

SATA            - All of channels on this IDE controller are serial channels.

PATA/SATA     - It contains parallel channel and serial channel both.

Hot Plug                       - Runtime plug-in or plug-out devices without reboot the system.

      Port Multiplier            - A Port Multiplier is a device for one SATA host port to communicate with multiple SATA devices.

Known Issue

SATAIDE

For Windows 2k, after installing SATA IDE driver, the “driver date” will show “Not available” in Device Manager.

SATAIDE

After installing VIA SATA IDE on VT3149/VT5337/ VT5287 SATA IDE controllers, the IDE controllers can not be recognized in the “NeroInfo” hardware monitor utility.

There are compatibility issues between VIA SATA IDE controllers and some port multiplier device.

1.      Some SATA II hard disks can’t be recognized after been plugged on ports of  port multiplier.

2.      Some SATAPI devices can’t be recognized after been plugged on ports of port multiplier..

3.      Copy compare test might fail among HDDs which attached on ports of port multiplier.

After investigated, VIA have forward those issue to the vendor of port multiplier.

Driver does not support tape device neither on SATA nor PATA channel.

Fixed bug:

1.      The driver delay time of SATA IDE Accelerator V2.0Beta1 is over 10 seconds on VT3324A2/ VT3337A3/VT3287A5 platform while using Microsoft Bootvis to test ACPI S3. [Criterion is 5 seconds]

2.      After installing SATA IDE Accelerator V2.00Beta4 on VT3149/VT5337/VT5287 and executing “PCMark2005” benchmark, the systems will BSOD.

3.      After updating the IDE driver from PATA/SATA IDE V1.40A by Device manager, the system will crash.

 

Version 1.20A

Improvement:

1.      Support VT8251 within IDE property page

 

Fixed bug:

1.      When uninstalling IDE Bus driver v1.11 by setup, the systems can not auto restart under Windows XP+SP2. (Check Windows XP+SP1: PASS)

2.      When installing IDE Bus/Port driver twice by setup, the Port driver will disappear from the device manager. By the way, the driver information will be showed "Unknown or Not available" in the device manager.

3.      For Windows 2K driver is showed "Not digitally signed" in the device manager, but the driver release note is written "Logo version for Windows 2K/XP".

1.      Pass HCT 11.2 Logo testing.
